November 18th 2016 Dueling Sommeliers Wine Tasting Dinner with Sara Guterbock and Emily Farrell

Location: Undercurrent Restaurant

We are excited to announce the 2016 Dueling Sommeliers Wine Dinner with Sara Guterbock and Emily Farrell.

For those of you new to our annual event, our 2014 Champion, Sara E. Guterbock, CS, ISS, CWE, DipWSET,  from Mutual Distributing, will go up against Emily Farrell, CSW, Territory Manager North Carolina | Virginia | West Virginia of LLS – Leonardo LoCascio Selections.

This is a multi-course dinner with TWO wines paired with each of Chef Michael‘s courses. The wines will not be disclosed until the evening of Nov. 18th and as a competition, we ask that you interact with Sara and Emily and ask questions then judge which of their wines paired best with Chef Michael’s cuisine.

These are two incredibly knowledgeable Sommeliers that have consistently provided Undercurrent with recommendations that belonged not only on the table but in the cellar as well. Both candidates will spend time (up to but no more than 5 minutes) discussing their pairing choices based on the wine they have selected for each of Chef Michael’s courses.

Meet the Sommeliers

 

Sara E. Guterbock, CSW, CS, CSA, AIWS, is the Sommelier, Wine, Sake and Sales Educator for Mutual Distributing Company.  

Sara is a Certified Sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers, a Certified Specialist of Wine through the Society of Wine Educators, and received her Diploma, or Associate of the Institute of Wine and Spirits designation, through the Wine and Spirits Education Trust in London, England, in 2012.

Most recently, Sara became a Certified Sake Advisor through Sake School of America & Sake Service Institute, Tokyo, Japan.  This was particularly meaningful to Sara, as she spent a year living in Japan as a high school student and grew up in a family that placed great emphasis on learning and experiencing their language and culture.  Becoming proficient in Sake has brought together Sara’s passion for the beverage industry with her life-long love of Japan, its people, traditions, and cuisine.

When she’s not immersed in studies, teaching, or tasting, you’re likely to find her with her roller skates on, practicing artistic skating with her daughter.  Sara is a dynamic, entertaining speaker who works with groups of all levels of wine expertise around the entire state of North Carolina!

 

 

Emily Farrell, CSW, Territory Manager of North Carolina | Virginia | West Virginia for LLS – Leonardo LoCascio Selections, a division of The Winebow Group.

With Emily’s help, The Winebow Group has built its reputation through offering an expanding portfolio of the finest-quality wine, spirits and sake available. Emily is always searching for wines and spirits that are authentic and interesting, and that express their distinct regions. It is this unending enthusiasm for discovery and for the talented work of winemakers and distillers that drives her every day.
 
When she’s taking a break from bringing the South East the best wine, spirits and sake from around the world , you’re likely to find her with her Husband Mike, Daughter Emma and Great Danes, Gretzky and Sidney, in and around Raleigh, N.C.
